Glean searches memory. Ignius creates it.
Enterprise search indexes what was written. A Company Brain captures what was decided, often in Slack before anyone wrote a doc. How Ignius differs from Glean and RAG tools.
Companies spent the last three years buying AI search. Glean, Notion AI, Guru, and dozens of RAG tools promise to find anything across Slack, Drive, and Jira. Budgets are real. Adoption is real. And yet the same senior engineers still get pinged: "Why did we build it this way?"
The tools did what they were built for. They just were not built for judgment.
What enterprise search is built for
Enterprise search connects apps, chunks documents, and retrieves relevant text when someone is stuck. The quality model is relevance: "Here's a doc from 2022 that might help." That works when the answer was written down somewhere searchable.
It fails when the answer lived in a Slack thread, a vendor call, or a decision that never made it to Confluence. Search cannot index what was never documented. It can only surface artifacts that already exist.
If the problem is finding the PRD from Q3, Glean is the right tool. The comparison page lays out the split honestly. Ignius is not a replacement for a hundred-connector search deployment.
What a Company Brain is built for
Ignius targets the gap search leaves open: decisions at the moment they happen. The capture loop surfaces candidates from Office, GitHub, and Xero, requires human confirm before anything saves, and stores decisions in scoped groups with citations.
Connect Office, GitHub, and Xero. Confirm what matters. Group by Operator, Portfolios, Partner, or Employee. Ask again with past decisions as evidence.
Glean searches memory. Ignius creates it.
When search still wins
Many companies need both: search for documents, memory creation for judgment. If the buyer needs IT-led rollout across every SaaS tool and "good enough" doc retrieval, search wins on breadth. That is a real use case.
Ignius tends to matter when people still Slack seniors after search fails on "why" questions, when departures hurt because judgment walked out the door, or when cross-functional teams need the decision rather than another link to a PRD.
The line used internally: Glean searches what the company wrote. Ignius captures what the company decided, and why.
A scenario both tools see differently
An eng lead gets asked why billing is a separate service from auth. Search returns a 2022 architecture doc, a Notion page someone started and abandoned, and forty Slack threads that mention "billing."
Ask in Ignius returns the decision someone confirmed after the Q3 reorg thread: the constraint from finance, who signed off, and a link to the actual Slack message. Confidence marked high because the person who made the call confirmed it.
Same company. Same tools connected. Different question answered.
How this shows up in product
Every decision Ignius stores has a summary, a link to where it came from, and a confidence level. Superseded decisions can be marked temporal. Users see what replaced what, not just the newest doc that mentions a keyword.
That is a different data model than chunk-and-embed retrieval. It is closer to a judgment graph than a search index.

Why wikis did not fix this either
Search retrieves what was written. Wikis were supposed to make people write things down. Neither worked for tacit knowledge because documentation was homework, and homework loses to shipping. Why your wiki doesn't stop Slack pings goes deeper on the interruption tax.
Where this matters most: operator change
The same gap shows up sharply at M&A close. A deal room indexes what was signed. It does not capture why the founder gave a customer an exception, how disputes over $50K get escalated, or which vendor relationships are delicate. Incoming operators spend months reverse-engineering that logic while customers and vendors still expect the "real" answer.
Ignius is building the operating system for that moment: a Company Brain with decision capture, sourced confidence, and a record that compounds as the new team runs the business. Not a search index of documents that were never written.
